WWI ORIGINAL TURKISH OTTOMAN ARMY OPEN LEATHER SHOES w/HOBNAILS VERY RARE
DESCRIPTION:
Offered to you is this pair of WWI original Turkish Ottoman army open leather shoes w/hobnails VERY RARE. The same shoes were worn during the 19th century during the Russo-Turkish war in 1877-1878. Turkish soldier's open shoes made from thick cow hide. The soles are reinforced with hobnails for durability and to prevent slippage in the muddy war conditions. The shoes are worn with a pair of slip-on wool felt boot-socks. The body of the shoe is cut from a single piece of leather gathered into shape around the upper edge by means of a leather thong threaded through a series of slits. The toe is sewn into a traditional upturned point. There is a leather strap in place to adjust the fit of the shoe. The strap also passes through a T-strap attached to the centre front of the shoe. This pair is in great condition for its age, truly museum grade. Although the leather has lost its flexibility, this is still a pair that would proudly take its place in any private or museum collection. Length: 11 ½”. For condition see photos.
