Up for auction is a very rare Lynam Patent Millers Falls Mfg. Co 1871 No.1 12” Ratcheting Bit Brace. This is Pre Miller Falls the first patented ratcheting bit brace by John T. Lynam . When I saw this brace at an auction I knew it was rare because I didn’t recognize the mechanism. It’s fairly simple direction is changed by turning the thumb screw everything is external spring and gear . Everything works as it should has a simple turned tropical pad and lion chuck two jaws works great . There is writing but I don’t want to destroy the patina to read it all . I know what this brace is if you’re bidding you know how rare this brace is . In a book published two decades ago only 26 examples were known. More now but still a very rare brace. In superb shape. Only crackling finish on the wood . Like I said in good working order one of the rarest and neatest tools I’ve ever found.
