an authentic antique Greek World War I 1916-1917 full size
military Medal.

Medal was set up in 1917 and was awarded for exceptional acts or
services, excellent administrative capacity, acts of self-sacrifice,
respect for legal order and strengthening of the country's military
capabilities.
The medal awarded in four classes, the first class (Gold Wreath) was
awarded to the Senior Officers, the second class (Silver Wreath) to
the Colonels, the third class (Bronze Wearth) to the Lieutenant
Colonels and Majors, and the fourth class (Without Wreath) to the
Captains after a ten-year prosperous service.
The brass medal is a work of the French Maurice Louis and Andre
Rivaud, consists of a cross, surrounded by a laurel wreath.
In the middle of it there is a relief phoenix bird, and in his antennae
are engraved the words, defending the country.
Two swords are crossed between the aerials of the cross.
The reverse side bears the inscription Greece 1916-1917.
The ribbon has approx.37 mm width and is colored in golden yellow
with two vertical black strips.
Medal comes unboxed as pictured.
An excellent addition in any Greek Royal Army Medal Collection.
