Custom Swagger Stick with Mother of Pearl Inlay, likely WW1This hand-made swagger stick is from my husband's private collection of militaria, purchased by him some 20+ years ago. He believes it to be of the WW1 period and likely owned by an officer but its country of origin is unknown.
The swagger stick is 20-inches long, including the two-inch brass bullet mounted at the point. The hardwood is beautifully finished with a mother of pearl inlay on two sides - one inlay measures 7/8 inch long, the other measures one inch in length, and both are 3/16 of an inch in width.
The photos depict the stick in full length from four different sides, however these shots do not reflect the beauty of the mother of pearl. The fourth photo is as close to the actual color and beauty of the inlay as my camera could capture.
In the last two photos, one closeup is of a knot located on one side of the stick, adding some character to the piece and highlighting the grain in the wood. The last photo shows what appears to be a slight flaw in the wood.
The condition of this swagger stick is
consistent
with one that has been used, but one that was obviously well cared for.
