Description
Here we have anAntique Pat. 1896 GOODELL-PRATT TOOLSMITHS No. 245, 2-Speed Chest Breast Shoulder Hand Drill.
The drill is maker marked on the crank handle and includes patent date Mar. 31, 1896. The red paint and gold lettering is very worn on the main gear but you can see portions of the Goodell info. Drill is in good 'used', working condition. There is some loss of finish and wear. Fully lubricated and it has a very nice smooth cranking action
.
You change speeds by pulling the small button on the side of the brass 'transmission' and turning it to either FAST or SLOW (it seems to change smoothly if you are in the process of cranking it when
you
are doing this). The original Hardwood crank handle
has minor
wear but
NO
cracks. The side handle looks like a replacement since it has a copper ferrule. The chuck works well and is also fully identified and has another patent date. This chuck takes up to 1/2"drill bits. No owner marks. The drill measures approx. 16" in length. No cracks, breaks or repairs in the frame or gears.
