with fantastic cartoon ‘PRESIDENT WILSON URGES FOOD CONSERVATION.’
followed by WWI proclamation on July 30, 1917, from Wilson: ‘Every pound of vegetables properly put by for future use, every jar of fruit preserved, add that much to our assurance of victory.’
Cartoon shows the proclamation being read to a potato, an ear of corn, a pumpkin and other anthropomorphic vegetables, farm animals and farmers. Cartoon is based on one by JN Darling in the New York Times.
