This is a look at the character of U.S. soldiers in World War I featured inside of a complete 1918 issue of LITERARY DIGEST Magazine!  This issue includes the article "THE SOUL OF THE AMERICAN SOLDIER". Nice 2–page article! Nice Photo of J.B de NALLES “OUR FIRST DECORATED CHAPLAIN!” The article is not about the chaplain—only the photo. He received the CROIX DE GUERRE for bravery under fire. In my research I have only found reference to James B. Nalle of Virginia as a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross. They may be two distinct people was a major who was killed after the publication date of this issue… There are, of course, many other interesting features in this magazine… This is a wonderful time capsule. It is in fine condition with typical vintage corner and edge wear. It's not mint, but fairly gently read and a tough find! A great piece FOR THE COLLECTOR!
