    Description

1875 Twenty Cent piece, authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC as Proof PF-58.  This premium proof coin has just a little but visible wear.  Relatively many proof 20-cent pieces were minted in 1875 - though still only 2,790 coins - and it is believed that they were successfully marketed that year from the Philadelphia Mint, with many purchases acquired as keepsakes.  A PF-58 grade indicates that the coin was not handled as carefully as collectors began to be taught to do in the 20th century and nowadays, and the highest points have a little wear.
Before handoff to NGC for grading, NCS managed to conserve - not clean - the surfaces, removing contaminants, which resulted in a coin with its original lustre almost intact from proof coinage.  This specimen has exceptional mirrored fields, which is why its value indicated by the price is matched accordingly.
1875 Philadelphia twenty cent pieces are rare enough as it is, let alone the proof issues.  This would be an exceptional way to type collect the lesser-known 20 cent denomination!  Enjoy.
