1852 Braided Hair Large cent for sale. This coin has an extremely thin planchet, and weighs only 2.75 grams! What is odd is that the details are still clear on both sides of the coin, meaning one side wasn't "smoothed" down as is common with love tokens, and the design isn't struck that deeply into the coin that the weight loss could have occurred through wear. Perhaps this coin was struck on a flattened half cent planchet? The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive. The first photo shows how thin this coin in compared to a typical large cent. The date is very faint, but can be made out with a good eye. A very interesting piece of U.S. history!
