For your consideration and potential bid is a very nice Old copper 1840 1C Braided Hair Large Cent Scarce Small Date Variety in average circulated condition.
surfaces are smooth and color is uniform chocolate brown. Details are fine. The reverse of the coin has been altered, the “E” crudely fashioned to a “U”, creating a “brothel token”as they are known. from the Wild West to the up-and-coming major US cities, these crude pieces of Americana provide an interesting glimpse into us history and culture in the pre civil war era. The modification minimally detracts from the coins eye appeal in my opinion.
